Black and White with a Cherry on Top
Buck a Block 2009 has been a wonderful experience for the Studio this year. It was so much fun, Buck a Block 2010 is already in the planning stages. If you were unable to join us this year because of lack of supplies, then please get your name on the list right away for 2010. You won't be sorry.
Buck a Block is a fun program giving you a different block for 12 months, each block easily assembled in a short time with Thangles. Here's how it works:
First Month - The cost is $ 6.00, which signs you up, gives you a package of Thangles for the half-square triangles (for 12 months), the pattern, and the fabrics for the inside block of Month One .
Months 2-12 - Bring in the completed block from the previous month and you can get the current block for $ 1.00. Again, you'll receive the new pattern and the fabrics for that month's block.
*Setting Star - Your monthly blocks are yours to incorporate into a quilt any way you wish. However, if you like the Setting Star that the Studio has chosen to frame the blocks, kits are available for $ 35.00. The kit includes all the fabric needed to make a Setting Star for each of the 12 inner blocks, a package of 3.5 Thangles to get you started (you'll need one more package by the end of your 12 Setting Stars), and a coupon for 20% discount (off msrp) coordinating fabrics for borders, backing, and binding. Kits are limited, so reserve yours early.
Sashing and Border Kit - I have chosen to set the 12 Buck a Blocks with sashing, a red cornerstone between the blocks, an inner border and an order border. If you would like a Sashing and Border Kit, please let me know as soon as possible. Kits with the outer border black print are limited. Alternate kits with another black and white fabric for the outer border are available. The alternate black and white print is within the same fabric line.
The response to this year's Buck a Block from the Studio has been so generous that supplies are no longer available for the monthly blocks. I'm sorry if you missed this opportunity, but please look forward to next year's Buck A Block 2010.
Popular questions about this program:
Q: Are all the center blocks black and white?
A: Yes, they are, and each month is different!
Q: If I can't get in to pick up my block, can you mail it to me?
A: Yes, with an additional charge of $ 1.00 for postage, etc.
Q: Can my friend join too?
A: Of course!
Q: Can I pick up monthly blocks for my friend?
A: Yes, as long as you bring her completed block from the previous month. Otherwise, the cost is $ 3.00 instead of $ 1.00.
Q: Can I sign up for more than one Buck a Block?
A: Yes, the cost for the additional monthly blocks is Three Dollars each.
Q: I've never used Thangles. Are they easy to use?
A: Thangles are great! I've come to recommend them for any half-square triangles. When you come in, I'll be happy to demonstrate them for you, and there are excellent instructions with each package.
Q: How many Thangles packages will I need to buy for the 12-months of blocks?
A: Only one package of 1.75 Thangles needs to be purchased with your first block. This package will last throughout all 12 months. You'll need two packages of 3.5 Thangles for the Setting Stars (one free package comes with your $ 35.00 kit).
Q: What if I didn't sign up in January? Have I missed the Buck a Block, or can I still start in another month?
A: You can start any month you like. I'm so organized, I'll always know what you need next. By the way, the blocks are NOT January, February, March, etc. Instead they are Block 1, Block 2, Block 3, etc., so you'll never feel as though you are behind all the other customers/students.
